National History
Phi Sigma Rho was founded in 1984 by two engineering students in Purdue University.
Our founders, Abby McDonald and Rashmi Khana, considered joining a sorority on campus but the demands of their majors prevented them from participating in all the events of traditional sorority rushes. This inspired them to establish a sorority for women in technical studies whose major restricted the amount of time they had available, but who were in search of sisterhood and support. After months of research and tremendous work, the Alpha Chapter of Phi Sigma Rho was established with ten members.
Almost thirty years after it was established in Purdue, Phi Sigma Rho has 27 chapters all across the nation. Our sorority appeals to majors with heavy math and science emphases to help women achieve a balance between strong social bonds and high accomplishments in their education.
Throughout the country, Phi Sigma Rho serves its sisters and the community by promoting:
-
High standards of personal integrity, respect, and character
-
Lifelong bonds of sisterhood
-
Academic and professional excellence with a social balance
Our Chapter
The Cal Poly Pomona Psi Chapter was established in February 2011. As a chapter, we are working hard to improve our community and in the process grow as individuals within our sisterhood. Though our chapter is Associate Panhellenic, we participate in events with the other Panhellenic sororities. Our chapter is also involved with other organizations on campus, both Greek and otherwise. We are also lucky to have neighboring chapters right here in Southern California at UCLA, UCSD, and UCI.
